Abstract
The genus Dysdercus comprises key pests of cotton crops, causing economic damage by feeding on seeds. Therefore, the objective of the research was to characterize the species diversity of this genus. Through collection using a sweep net and active searching, 860 individuals were obtained, which were morphologically identified with an emphasis on the parameres of the male genitalia. Five species were identified: D. bimaculatus, D. honestus, D. fulvoniger fulvoniger, D. mimus distanti, and D. obscuratus garzkei. The morphometric analysis grouped them into three clusters. Although the overall abundance did not vary significantly, the species factor did affect abundance, with D. fulvoniger fulvoniger being significantly less abundant than D. bimaculatus. A canonical correspondence analysis indicated that the measured environmental variables did not explain the variation in species composition. We conclude that the complex of morphologically differentiated species in the region, along with their distribution and abundance, appears to be influenced by factors other than the evaluated environmental conditions.
