Abstract

A set of reflections developed within the context of the research entitled "social representation of mental health in times of disasters" will be considered, a research that had qualified informants from the Aymara community as valid interlocutors of the same, in the research phase field. The title has been taken from an article published by Valla (1996), dealing with community health issues, thus, the author, among other things, analyzes and discusses the behavior of peasant communities in the face of the phenomenology of disasters in general and in particular to those of the phenomenon of the child that occurred in Peru, during the years 92 and 93. These communities in a situation of disasters act in a unique way, on the one hand, they establish a set of actions against the state in order to channel resources that surely They were palliative in the face of the conjuncture and structural crisis, and on the other, they act in an effective way in the face of the disaster problem through schemes of communal characteristics, embedded in their social and cultural context and in general these schemes differ substantively from those that the been designed in policies and programs.
